Terms of use
Red Flag reports visual resemblance between faces on publicly indexed pages. It does not identify people, and it does not tell you whether someone is safe. These terms set out what you may and may not do with it.
What the service does
You upload a photograph and crop it to a single face. We send that crop to a third-party face-search provider, which compares it against faces on publicly accessible web pages and returns a ranked list of pages where a similar face appears, each with a similarity score.
A similarity score is a measurement of how alike two images are. It is not an identification, not a verification, and not a judgement about any person. Different people can score highly against each other, and two photographs of the same person can score low. You are responsible for what you conclude from a result.
Prohibited uses
You may not use Red Flag, or anything you obtain through it, to:
- Harass, stalk, threaten, or intimidateany person, or to monitor or track a person’s activities or whereabouts.
- Impersonate any person, or to create, assemble, or distribute material that misrepresents who someone is.
- Make decisions about employment, including hiring, retention, promotion, or reassignment.
- Make decisions about housing or tenant screening, including whether to rent or sell to someone.
- Make decisions about consumer credit or insurance, including eligibility, pricing, or underwriting.
- Make decisions about education or professional licensing.
- Expose, publish, or distribute information about a person for the purpose of causing them harm, embarrassment, or unwanted contact.
- Search for or build profiles of minors.
- Break any law that applies to you, including biometric privacy laws and data protection laws in your jurisdiction.
Red Flag is not a consumer reporting agency and its results are not consumer reports under the US Fair Credit Reporting Act. You may not use them for any purpose regulated by that Act. Our upstream provider imposes the same restriction on us, and we are required to pass it on to you.
Where you may use it
Some jurisdictions regulate the processing of biometric identifiers, including Illinois and Texas in the United States, and treat biometric data as a special category under the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulations. You are responsible for confirming that your use is lawful where you are. We may decline to serve requests from jurisdictions where we cannot operate lawfully.
What we do not promise
Results depend entirely on what our provider has indexed. An empty result means nothing matching was found in that index; it is not evidence that a person has no online presence. We do not promise that results are complete, current, or correct, and we do not control the content of the pages we link to.
If you appear in someone’s results
You can ask us to stop returning results that relate to you using our removal form. We can only act on the results our own service returns; pages on the wider web remain under the control of whoever publishes them.
Credits and payment
Searches are paid for with credits, bought in packs. A search costs a fixed number of credits, shown before you run it. Credits do not expire, and there is no subscription and nothing to cancel — you buy a pack when you want one and that is the end of it.
Prices are shown before you pay and include any tax we are required to charge. Credits have no cash value, cannot be transferred between accounts, and cannot be exchanged for money.
Refunds
If a search fails, the credits are returned automatically. That includes a search the provider could not complete and one that never finished in time. You do not need to ask, and the refund appears in your account history.
A search that runs and returns nothing has not failed. An empty result is a real answer — it means no public page in the index carries a similar face — and it is not refunded, because the search was performed.
Unused credits can be refunded within 14 days of purchase if you have not spent any of the pack. Ask through the removal form or by replying to your purchase email. We do not refund credits already spent on searches that ran.
Your account
There is no password. You sign in through Google, or with an account key we generate. The key is the account: anyone holding it is you, as far as we can tell, and we cannot recover or replace it because we hold nothing else about you.
You can ask us to close your account at any time. Unused credits are not refundable once an account is closed, so spend or claim them first. We keep the purchase record after closure, without the account reference, for as long as a payment dispute could be raised.
Ending your access
We may suspend or end access for anyone we reasonably believe is using the service for a prohibited purpose. Where we do so because of a prohibited use, we are not obliged to refund unused credits, and we may report the account to law enforcement where the law requires it.
Changes
We will update the date at the top of this page when these terms change. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
